Maher likened the escalating feud to a blockbuster movie battle, drawing a parallel to the legal issues faced by actress Blake Lively. At the beginning of the show, Maher expressed his focus on the Musk and Trump conflict, stating, "I wasn't going to pretend I can really think about anything other than the Trump, Elon rift." He described the situation as akin to a cinematic giant monster battle, remarking, "When you think about it, the richest man in the world and the most powerful man in the world, it's like Godzilla versus King Kong, if Godzilla was on ketamine and King Kong had a comb over." The feud began intensifying on Thursday when Musk openly criticized a Republican Party bill, leading to a series of exchanges between the two on social media platforms.

President Trump shared on Truth Social, highlighting the tension. The comedian further joked about Musk mistakenly saying tariffs would cause an "erection" instead of a "recession." Lively's attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, stated that their client is dropping certain claims as they are "no longer necessary," but will continue to pursue emotional distress damages through other claims, including sexual harassment and retaliation.
