The City of Beverly Hills has appointed Cindy Gordon as its next Assistant Director of Community Development and City Planner, concluding a nationwide recruitment process, city officials announced this month.
Gordon, who currently serves as a project manager within the Community Development Department, brings more than a decade of experience with the city to the role. She first joined Beverly Hills in 2011 as an assistant planner and has steadily advanced through the department, holding positions including associate planner, senior planner, principal planner, and most recently project manager.
Community Development Director Michael Forbes praised Gordon’s appointment, citing her technical expertise and leadership within the department.
“She is deeply respected by her team as a strong technical planner and leader,” Forbes said. “Her diverse experience and institutional knowledge will continue to be of great benefit to our community.”
Gordon’s academic background includes two bachelor’s degrees in community and regional planning and sociology from Iowa State University, as well as a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She is also certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
In her new role, Gordon will help oversee planning initiatives, development review, and long-term land use policy as Beverly Hills continues to balance growth, preservation, and community priorities.
Gordon is scheduled to assume her new position on Monday, December 15.
