Beverly Hills High School students Janice Moon and Naomi Yasui were recognized by the Beverly Hills City Council for their work in a first-of-its-kind internship program connecting BHUSD students with city government.

The program marks a first for BHUSD, creating a direct bridge between classroom learning and city government. Through the internship, students gain hands-on experience in municipal operations, commission processes and public service while contributing to projects that support the Beverly Hills community.

Yasui served as a Community Services Commission intern with the Arts and Culture Commission, while Moon served with the Recreation and Parks Commission.

Their recognition at a formal City Council meeting highlighted the district’s growing emphasis on career-connected learning and civic engagement. It also underscored a broader partnership between BHUSD and the City of Beverly Hills, with students being given meaningful opportunities to apply their skills in real-world public settings.

“This recognition reflects what makes Beverly Hills exceptional,” said BHUSD Board President Judy Manouchehri. “When our City and School District come together, we create opportunities beyond the classroom. Seeing our students recognized on a City Council stage is incredibly meaningful and highlights both our strong partnership and their limitless potential.”

The program is supported by the Beverly Hills High School Career Academy and College & Career Center, which help connect students with internships, career pathways and practical learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

For BHUSD, the internship program represents a new model for student engagement in local government. Students are not only learning about civic institutions, they are participating in them, gaining direct exposure to how local decisions, programs and services are developed.

The district said the program reflects its broader commitment to Educational Excellence by preparing students for future leadership through real-world experience, public service and community partnership.

As BHUSD continues to expand partnerships with the City of Beverly Hills and other community organizations, the recognition of Moon and Yasui stands as an example of how local government and public education can work together to prepare the next generation of leaders.
