The City of Beverly Hills is launching a new awards program recognizing the people and projects that help preserve the community’s architectural and cultural history. The Beverly Hills Cultural Heritage Commission has opened nominations for the first annual Historic Preservation Awards, inviting residents to submit candidates through December 17, 2025.
The program will honor work in four categories:
Restoration/Preservation Award – Recognizes a project that restores a historic structure to its original appearance while maintaining its heritage and cultural significance, including the recreation of original features.
Renovation/Rehabilitation Award – Honors the successful renovation of a damaged, outdated, or nonfunctional historic structure. Eligible projects modernize the building for contemporary use while preserving defining historic or architectural elements.
Historic Site Stewardship Award – Awarded to an individual or organization that has demonstrated exceptional long-term commitment to the care, programming, and protection of a historic site.
Historic Awareness and Education Award – Given to an individual who has meaningfully advanced public understanding of Beverly Hills history and demonstrated a passion for preservation.
Awards will be presented each May in conjunction with National Preservation Month, aligning Beverly Hills with cities across the country that highlight outstanding preservation work annually. To qualify, nominated projects must have been completed in 2012 or later.
The new program complements Beverly Hills’ ongoing preservation efforts, including its Cultural Heritage Ordinance, local historic register, and Golden Shield landmark program. The awards offer a dedicated opportunity to spotlight both hands-on work and community advocacy that strengthen the city’s historic identity.
