The city's annual observance highlights respectful conduct and positive neighbor relations. Recognition for the 2026 Embrace Civility Award is scheduled for October 20.

Beverly Hills is marking October as Civility Month, with the Health and Human Relations Commission encouraging residents, local employees and businesses to make kindness, respect and responsible conduct part of everyday community life.

The city's announcement places the emphasis on ordinary interactions: how neighbors treat one another, how people respond to disagreements and how their actions contribute to positive human relations.

The observance is connected to the city's longer-running Embrace Civility initiative. The broader program began in 2010, while the annual Embrace Civility Award dates to 2012.

The award recognizes a community member who models positive behavior, supports respect and responsible actions, or promotes positive neighbor-to-neighbor relations. Those criteria give the city's campaign a practical focus on conduct that others can follow.

The city's announcement describes the award as recognizing everyday residents, local employees and businesses that set a positive example in the community.

For 2026, the city's award webpage lists City Council recognition of the recipient for Tuesday, October 20, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting will be available to watch through the city's live-meeting service at beverlyhills.org/live.

Nominations for this year's award are closed. The commission's webpage provides information about the award criteria and the ongoing Embrace Civility program.

The initiative also has a municipal-election component. Beverly Hills introduced an Election Civility Statement in 2010, asking candidates and campaign managers to support respect and responsible actions during election discussions and community life.

Throughout October, the city is encouraging the wider community to take part in the observance through respectful everyday interactions. Information about the award and its scheduled recognition is available at beverlyhills.org/1412/Embrace-Civility-Award.
