An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through October 8. Roxbury and La Cienega community centers offer indoor relief during their listed operating hours.

Beverly Hills is directing residents to local cooling centers as an Extreme Heat Warning continues across the Los Angeles region through Thursday, October 8.

The National Weather Service's Los Angeles/Oxnard office says the warning remains in effect for Los Angeles County's coast and valleys through Thursday. The city's October 2 announcement identified two community centers where residents can find indoor relief during operating hours.

Roxbury Park Community Center, at 471 S. Roxbury Drive, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

La Cienega Park Community Center, at 8400 Gregory Way, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is closed on weekends.

The city's heat-safety webpage also lists the Beverly Hills Public Library as a cooling location during its regular operating hours. Residents seeking other options across Los Angeles County can call 211 for cooling-center information.

Beverly Hills' safety guidance emphasizes staying in air-conditioned spaces when possible, drinking water regularly, reducing strenuous outdoor activity and taking breaks in the shade. For necessary outdoor activities, the city recommends cooler morning or evening hours and lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

The city is also urging residents to check on older adults, people who are ill and neighbors without air conditioning. Its guidance identifies older adults, infants and young children, and people with chronic medical conditions as groups at greater risk from heat-related illness.

Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. The city's graphic reminds drivers to "Look Before You Lock" as part of its heat-safety campaign.
