The Beverly Hills Police Department has promoted longtime officer Renato Moreno from lieutenant to the permanent rank of captain, placing him in charge of the department’s Field Services Bureau.

Moreno, a 29-year veteran of the force, will officially assume the title on Nov. 29. He has served as acting captain of the bureau since May, overseeing patrol operations, the traffic unit, jail operations, the SWAT team and the K-9 unit.

In a department statement, Chief Mark G. Stainbrook praised Moreno’s experience and leadership.

“Captain Moreno is a valuable member of the Beverly Hills Police Department and brings 29 years of dedicated law enforcement experience,” Stainbrook said. “We are pleased to have him in this permanent leadership position and look forward to the positive impact he will continue to have on our officers and the Beverly Hills community.”

Moreno’s career has included a wide range of assignments: patrol officer, crime-suppression officer, school resource officer, field training officer, internal affairs supervisor and, most recently, commander of the Traffic Bureau.

The department highlighted Moreno’s “exceptional leadership, decisiveness, and a strong commitment to officer development and community safety” during his time as acting captain.

The promotion formalizes a role Moreno has already been performing for the past six months.
