Beverly Hills Unified School District has appointed Dr. Issaic Gates as its new Executive Director of Personnel Services.

Dr. Issaic Gates has been selected as the new Executive Director of Personnel Services for Beverly Hills Unified School District, Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss announced Wednesday.

Dr. Gates brings more than twenty years of public education experience to the position. He has served as a classroom teacher, school principal, and district-level executive.

As principal of San Marino High School, Dr. Gates led the campus to the state’s top academic ranking for three consecutive years. He later served as Executive Director in Inglewood Unified School District, where he created college tour programs for students. Most recently, he was Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources for the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, overseeing personnel for more than 3,500 employees and 24,000 students.

“Exceptional schools begin with exceptional people, and Dr. Gates embodies that belief,” Dr. Cherniss said. “His commitment to recruiting, supporting, and uplifting educators aligns perfectly with BHUSD’s standard of Educational Excellence.”

Dr. Gates said he is honored to join the district.

“I am honored to serve the Beverly Hills Unified School District,” he said. “I look forward to supporting our extraordinary staff and ensuring that BHUSD continues to be a place where every student is known, challenged, and supported.”

Dr. Gates holds a Doctorate in K-12 Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master’s in Education Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Central Florida. He also serves as an adjunct professor at USC’s Rossier School of Education.

He and his wife, Dr. Rasheedah Gates, have three children.
