As protests intensify across Iran, Beverly Hills leaders and Iranian American advocates are emerging as prominent voices calling for freedom, human rights, and an end to the Islamic Republic’s rule.

As protests intensify across Iran, the Iranian American community in Beverly Hills is once again emerging as a focal point of international advocacy, drawing attention to a movement rooted in decades of repression and renewed demands for fundamental human rights.

Beverly Hills is home to one of the largest Iranian diaspora communities in the United States, many of whom were forced into exile following the 1979 revolution. For residents, the current uprising is not a distant geopolitical event but a deeply personal struggle tied to family, identity, and an enduring connection to their homeland.

In recent days, rallies across Southern California have echoed with calls for freedom, accountability, and democratic reform. Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education member Russell Stuart also publicly expressed support for the demonstrations, sharing a message on social media during a visit to Israel, as civic leaders and community organizers continue working to raise public awareness and international attention.

At a major rally supporting Iranian protesters, Beverly Hills Mayor Sharona Nazarian addressed the crowd as both an elected official and a member of the Iranian diaspora, speaking about exile, religious persecution, and the moral responsibility to stand with those demanding freedom. Her remarks emphasized that peaceful protest is a human right and framed the current unrest as a moral crisis rather than a purely political one.

Separately, Mayor Nazarian provided The Beverly Hills Standard with an exclusive statement addressing the scale of the demonstrations and the urgency of global acknowledgment.

“For 47 years, the people of Iran have lived under a brutal governing system that has systematically stripped them of basic civil and human rights and silenced free expression. Today, peaceful demonstrations are unfolding across all 31 provinces, reflecting a population united in its call for accountability, dignity, and the right to be heard.

The human rights violations in Iran are well documented and ongoing. I recognize the extraordinary courage of civilians who continue to speak out despite grave personal risk. Bearing witness matters. Acknowledging documented abuses matters. This is a human rights issue, and silence is not an option. If we believe in civil rights, dignity, and humanity, we must stand together and be a voice for those who are being silenced.”

The exclusive statement reinforces themes expressed at public demonstrations while underscoring the mayor’s position that international awareness and moral clarity remain essential as events continue to unfold.

Local advocacy has also been amplified by longtime community leaders, including Kathy Afshani, who addressed the growing unrest in a statement shared with The Beverly Hills Standard.

“We’re on the edge of our seats praying the awful ayatollah regime will fall,” Afshani said. “We want to see the return of the rightful King of Iran, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. The people of Iran deserve to live in peace and prosperity. They deserve to have freedom and basic human rights. And we’re all hoping President Trump will keep his word and intervene on behalf of the people.”

As protests continue inside Iran under significant personal risk, demonstrations abroad serve as a reminder that global attention remains critical. For many in Beverly Hills, the movement represents not only opposition to authoritarian rule, but hope for a future defined by freedom of expression, religious tolerance, and basic human dignity.

City leaders and community members alike say they intend to remain engaged, stressing that what is unfolding in Iran is not merely a political dispute, but a human rights crisis demanding sustained global attention.
