The Beverly Hills High School girls volleyball team brought an 11-3 record to its recognition by the BHUSD Board of Education on October 13, as Principal Loan Sriruksa described the mark as the program's best in more than a decade.
The board honored the players and coaches during the Teacher/Student Spotlight at its regular meeting, with the Normans preparing for CIF playoff competition the following week, according to an October 14 district press release.
Head Coach Tanner Siegel, now in his third year at BHHS, credited a group that has combined commitment with enjoyment of the sport.
"This is a group that balances working hard and having fun," Siegel said. "I'm proud to be the head coach of this program."
Siegel leads more than 35 student-athletes across the program's frosh/soph, junior varsity and varsity teams, working alongside Assistant Coaches Eriko Gambol and Armani Moultrie.
In his remarks, Siegel acknowledged support for uniforms and equipment, along with the athletic department's work arranging transportation and coordinating practice schedules. The district also highlighted the team's Nike uniforms through BHUSD's partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS.
Board President Judy Manouchehri emphasized the responsibilities that come with representing a school while keeping up with classroom work.
"Being a student-athlete is a serious commitment. It means showing up every day, honoring your responsibilities to your coach and teammates, and balancing the demands of your sport with your education," Manouchehri said. "Those habits will serve these young women long after their final game. That is why this Board has made athletics a priority, and why we are so proud to recognize this team."
Sriruksa told the board that the CIF playoff schedule was expected to be released the weekend of October 17-18. Board members congratulated the team and encouraged residents to support the Normans.
