Beverly Hills High School has reopened its newly completed Grand Lawn, returning one of the campus’s most iconic spaces to students after years of modernization work.
The Beverly Hills Unified School District celebrated the grand opening and ribbon-cutting on May 1, bringing together the Beverly Hills High School student body during lunch, along with members of the Board of Education and City Council.
With the ceremonial ribbon cutting, the Grand Lawn was officially returned to students as a central gathering place designed to support connection, community and school spirit.
The reopening marks a major milestone in the district’s broader Beverly Hills High School modernization effort, which has included years of phased construction and campus improvements.
“Generations of community members made a bold commitment when they invested in modernizing our schools, and we take seriously our responsibility to honor that trust by delivering results,” said BHUSD Board of Education President Judith Manouchehri. “Over the past several years, our focus has been on maximizing every taxpayer dollar, improving efficiency, and ensuring these projects move forward in a financially responsible way. In partnership with Fonder-Salari, the District strengthened the program’s financial position from a projected $100+ million shortfall to a $5 million surplus while also expanding improvements to include projects such as the new tennis courts and Grand Lawn.”
Long regarded as a defining feature of Beverly Hills High School, the revitalized Grand Lawn will now serve as a setting for daily student life, lunchtime gatherings, school events and major campus traditions.
District officials said the space is also expected to support future community celebrations, promotions and graduation activities.
The Grand Lawn reopening reflects BHUSD’s continued focus on educational excellence and the creation of high-quality campus spaces that support student growth, well-being and belonging.
