A deep playoff run in Lancaster turned into a milestone moment for Beverly Hills High School’s MorTorq Robotics Team, which reached the finals at the FIRST Robotics California District Aerospace Valley Event and finished second overall.
The result marked the program’s first trip to the finals in 16 years.
MorTorq was selected to join an alliance with Team 687 of the California Academy of Mathematics & Science and Team 2073 of Pleasant Grove High School after strong qualifying-round performances against teams from across the region.
The alliance advanced through the elimination bracket and ultimately secured a second-place finish in the final round.
“This result reflects the work our students have put in all season,” Robotics Teacher and Coach John Castle said. “From one competition to the next, they continue to grow, collaborate, and represent Beverly Hills High School with focus and determination.”
The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges students to design, build and compete with industrial-sized robots in a fast-paced environment centered on engineering, teamwork and problem-solving.
This year’s showing underscored the continued rise of BHHS’s robotics program and gave MorTorq one of its strongest competition results in recent memory.
