Student leaders from Beverly Hills High School received City Council honors during AAPI Heritage Month, reflecting BHUSD’s commitment to unity, respect, and community connection.

In a meaningful moment of recognition, Beverly Hills High School student leaders were honored during the City of Beverly Hills’ Moment of Unity at the May 20th City Council meeting in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. This recognition shines a spotlight not only on their individual efforts, but on the shared values of respect, heritage, and community leadership.

Student representatives from the BHHS Korean Culture Club and Chinese Culture Club were invited to speak at the podium, sharing how their organizations foster cultural appreciation, promote cross-cultural dialogue, and help create an inclusive campus climate rooted in belonging and tradition.

“We deeply value our ongoing partnership with the City of Beverly Hills,” said BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “Seeing our students recognized by City Council during AAPI Heritage Month highlights our shared dedication to fostering a community rooted in respect, purpose, and connection.”
These student-led clubs do more than celebrate heritage—they cultivate understanding, organize educational programs, and demonstrate what it means to lead with integrity, purpose, and civic responsibility. Their leadership represents a strong and growing bridge between BHUSD and the broader Beverly Hills community.

This moment of public acknowledgment, initiated by Mayor Sharona Nazarian, underscores the city's and district’s mutual commitment to fostering unity. The “Moment of Unity” is a new initiative aimed at recognizing those who strengthen the fabric of Beverly Hills through their actions, voices, and values.

By lifting up the next generation of cultural leaders, BHUSD affirms that education is not merely academic—it is deeply moral, relational, and rooted in civic virtue. These students are not just enriching campus life; they are shaping the future of our community with humility and vision.
