Officers visited four Beverly Hills school campuses during the second week of classes, giving students an informal opportunity to meet the police personnel who work with the district throughout the year.

Students at four Beverly Hills Unified School District campuses spent part of the second week of school meeting local police officers over popsicles as BHUSD and the Beverly Hills Police Department held "Popsicles with the Police."

Members of BHPD's Community Relations Unit, School Resource Officers and Patrol personnel visited Beverly Vista Middle School, El Rodeo Elementary School, Horace Mann Elementary School and Beverly Hills Preschool, where they distributed popsicles and spent time with students.

The event was designed to give students a more informal setting to interact with officers and build familiarity with the law enforcement personnel who work with Beverly Hills schools.

BHUSD and BHPD maintain an ongoing relationship that includes campus safety, emergency preparedness, staff training, communication and coordination throughout the school year.

"What makes Beverly Hills special is the way our community shows up for our students," BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss said. "Our Police Department does not simply respond when we need them; they are present, engaged, and invested in our schools and in the lives of our students. That relationship matters. Our students feel that commitment every day. It is one of the reasons Beverly Hills is such an extraordinary place to grow up."

The district also works with the Beverly Hills Fire Department on student and campus safety matters, with the three agencies coordinating on preparedness and support for students and staff.

While "Popsicles with the Police" centered on a simple back-to-school activity, the broader purpose was to strengthen relationships between students and officers before an emergency or safety issue brings them together in a more serious setting.

The campus visits are part of the continuing collaboration among BHUSD, BHPD and other Beverly Hills public safety agencies as the 2026-27 school year gets underway.
