In a decisive move to strengthen academic excellence and future readiness, the BHUSD Board of Education has approved a new Dual Language Academy and a major expansion of the BHHS College Counseling Center.

This week, the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education once again demonstrated principled leadership and a forward-thinking vision by approving two landmark educational initiatives. On May 27, the Board gave a resounding green light to launch a new Dual Language Academy and expand the Beverly Hills High School College Counseling Center—both set to begin in the 2025–2026 academic year.

These initiatives reflect the district’s steadfast commitment to preparing students for the real world, not only by mastering traditional academics but by cultivating linguistic fluency, cultural understanding, and college readiness.

Dual Language Academy Launches Fall 2025 Starting with Kindergarten and First Grade at El Rodeo and Horace Mann Elementary Schools, BHUSD’s Dual Language Academy will offer a robust K–5 program that delivers core instruction in both English and Spanish. With each year, a new grade level will be added, building toward a full immersion pathway that strengthens cognitive flexibility, academic rigor, and ultimately, earns students the prestigious California State Seal of Biliteracy.
“This is a long-term investment in academic excellence and global readiness,” said Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “The Board has taken an important step forward that will benefit generations of BHUSD students.”
College Counseling Center Expansion at BHHS The Board also voted to significantly expand the Beverly Hills High School Counseling Center, aligning it with national best practices for college admissions support. The upgraded center will add three new counselors to provide more personalized, grade-level guidance, along with a full-time wellness counselor to ensure holistic student support.

A new TK–12 Director of Counseling will oversee the system, guaranteeing a seamless experience from a child’s first day in the district through high school graduation.
“This is more than a structural shift, it’s a comprehensive support model that helps all students plan for and access four-year universities,” said Dr. Dustin Seemann, Assistant Superintendent of Education Services. “It brings our college counseling program in line with national best practices.”
These bold moves by the BHUSD Board represent more than administrative decisions—they are expressions of visionary stewardship, aimed at giving students every possible advantage in a complex and competitive world. With a dual focus on cultural competence and college success, the district continues to lead with purpose, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to student achievement.
