BVMS Welcome Back Carnival Opens School Year on New Field

Beverly Vista Middle School opened the new school year with its annual Welcome Back Carnival, bringing students together on New BVMS Field for an evening of rides, food, activities and time with classmates.

The event was organized by the Beverly Vista Middle School PTA and supported by Michael J. Libow, a member of the Beverly Hills High School Class of 1981.

The carnival was intended to give students an informal way to reconnect at the start of the school year and build relationships outside the classroom.

Members of the Beverly Hills Fire Department also took part in the event, serving food and spending time with students during the evening.

One of the night's more visible moments came when Beverly Hills Police Department Lt. Billy Fair, BHUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and Beverly Hills firefighter Jimmy Weinstein went down one of the carnival slides together.

"Some of the most meaningful school experiences happen when students simply have the opportunity to be together, build friendships, and feel connected to their school," Cherniss said. "The BVMS PTA created something incredibly special for our students, and we are grateful to Michael J. Libow and our community partners for helping give them such a memorable start to the year."

The carnival also highlighted the role parent volunteers and local public safety agencies continue to play in school events across Beverly Hills, extending those relationships beyond the classroom and formal campus safety functions.

For BVMS, the event served as an early opportunity to reinforce school identity and student connection as the 2026-27 academic year gets underway.
