Beverly Hills Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss is continuing his Student Superintendent Advisory Committee for a second year, giving students a direct opportunity to discuss their school experiences with district leadership, according to an October 8 district press release.
Cherniss met with Beverly Hills High School's 11th-grade committee members on October 2 to discuss academic preparation, student support, well-being and planning for life after high school. Students shared their perspectives on balancing academic responsibilities, extracurricular commitments and future plans.
The district said Cherniss personally met with and interviewed every student who applied, then accepted every applicant onto the committee.
"I am continually impressed by how thoughtful and invested our students are in their school community," said Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. "They bring honest perspectives, ask important questions, and offer ideas that challenge us to think more deeply about how we support them. I wanted every student who applied to have a seat at the table because that willingness to contribute deserves to be encouraged. Listening to their experiences is essential to understanding what our schools do well and where we can do better."
The committee provides a forum for students to ask questions, offer recommendations and discuss decisions that affect their education. The district describes the continuing conversations as a way for students to help shape the support they receive throughout their school experience.
