Dominique Petrie graduated from BHHS in 2018. Long before national championships or the bright lights of professional hockey, she was a Norman. Her high school years were marked by hard work across sports. She led the girls basketball team to back-to-back CIF titles and competed on the tennis courts with the same level of focus. She was not handed success. She earned it.
From there, she went on to play Division I hockey at Harvard University. That alone would have made Beverly Hills proud. But Dominique kept pushing. In 2024, she joined Minnesota’s PWHL team and helped bring home the Walter Cup. She did not just represent a team. She represented a city, a school, and every student-athlete who puts in the work without seeking attention.
When Dominique returned to BHHS this summer, she brought the Walter Cup with her. She also brought something harder to measure but even more meaningful: a legacy. She spent time with coaches and current students, not just as a former player, but as an example of what it looks like to pursue greatness with humility and heart.
“Dominique embodies the very best of BHUSD,” said Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. “Her journey is a powerful reminder to our students that excellence is not just a goal, but a mindset. When you combine talent with character and grit, anything is possible. We are proud to celebrate her accomplishments and the inspiration she brings to our entire district.”That praise is deserved. But the takeaway must be clear. Dominique Petrie’s story is not just about success. It is about strong values and serious effort. It reminds us that our schools can still shape exceptional individuals when they commit to responsibility, discipline, and leadership. Her pitch at Dodger Stadium reached far more than home plate. It reached every student who wonders what might be possible with courage and commitment.
