Amanda E. Stern

My name is Dr. Amanda Stern and I have been a board member of Beverly Hills Unified School District for over 3.5 years. I am running again for a second term in order to continue to bring advocacy and common sense to our learners and their families. I have drawn upon my skills as a school psychologist, with many years of service and expertise throughout the Los Angeles area. During the pandemic, levels of anxiety and depression reached unprecedented levels. I believe I was instrumental in setting a compass for how to navigate these troubling times for our students. For instance, In the aftermath, I, along with my fellow board members, led the charge to welcome a brand new, state-of-the-art Wellness Center to offer much needed support to our middle school students. My expertise in the schools has prepared me to make careful and important decisions regarding how children learn, socialize, and how we can support them towards academic excellence. I share a strong vision of Academic Excellence. I have advocated for increased professional development in Mathematics, so that our educators are continuously trained on evidence-based practices. I continue to voice my concerns about campus safety. I succeeded in bringing forth a Firearm Safety Resolution (passed 2/14/2023) which unifies our commitment to educating and warning parents about the inherent dangers of unsecured guns in homes with children. This June was the second time in which I continuously brought forth discussions (in consultation with our esteemed director of security) about logistics, prevention, and security measures in an effort to keep all students and attendees safe during end-of-year ceremonies. More recently, I brought forth the Maintaining Safe Digital Citizenry resolution (passed 3/26/24) in response to the myriad of complex issues involved with social media and our students. Beverly Hills is a special place. I have been a home-owner in Beverly Hills for over twenty-years. My spouse and I are proud and grateful for the education that our children have received at BHUSD. As a tax-payer, steward, and fiduciary of the district, I take financial solvency very seriously. In collaboration with my colleagues, I have closely examined our costs, liabilities and other matters that make up our economic landscape. I hope you will consider re-electing me.
