Former Beverly Hills Mayor Julian Gold has endorsed Jared Gonzales for the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education, citing the candidate's classroom experience and focus on students' academic development.
In an October 13 email circulating among Beverly Hills residents, Gold urged voters to give Gonzales serious consideration, pointing to his emphasis on motivating children, building resilience and strengthening learning skills.
"A working schoolteacher, he speaks about motivating children, helping them be resilient and improving their learning skills to create a path for them to find success," Gold wrote.
Gold described Gonzales' approach as that of an educator concerned with academic performance across the district's student body. His endorsement centered on the value he sees in bringing that perspective to the board.
"I would ask that you learn more about Jared and give him serious consideration as you vote," Gold wrote.
Gold acknowledged that Gonzales was not yet widely known in the community and said introducing residents to his candidacy was the reason for his email.
"I think he is the only one who is running for the right reasons and has the greatest capacity to help our district," Gold wrote.
The message expressly endorsed Gonzales and left the choice of a second candidate to voters. Gold closed by asking residents to consider casting a vote for Gonzales and directing them to his campaign website.
On his website, Gonzales says he has taught in both public and private schools. He identifies academic success, student safety and wellness, and board governance as his campaign's three priorities.
Gonzales is seeking a board seat in the November 3 election. More information about his background and positions is available at jaredgonzales.org.
