Government Data Request Policy
Effective September 14, 2026 · Version 1.1
Beverly Hills Standard LLC reviews government requests for nonpublic information carefully. This policy covers information about our readers, subscribers, staff, confidential sources and unpublished reporting, including data received through our Facebook and Instagram integrations.
Responsible review
Beverly Hills Standard, LLC is responsible for this policy. Its designated company representative coordinates requests and approves disclosures on behalf of the company after legal review. Staff must refer requests promptly and may not independently release information, confirm whether records exist, promise compliance, or ignore deadlines. We independently verify the requesting agency and official.
Legal review and challenges
Before voluntarily producing information, we require qualified legal counsel to review the request’s authority, jurisdiction, service, scope, deadline, confidentiality restrictions, and applicable protections for journalists and sources. We seek withdrawal or an available legal challenge when counsel identifies an unlawful demand. We seek clarification or narrowing of ambiguous or overbroad requests and comply with final enforceable obligations as advised by counsel.
Limited disclosure
We disclose only information legally required after applying valid limitations, objections and redactions. The final production is checked against an approved inventory and sent to a verified recipient using an appropriately protected transfer method. Unrelated personal information is excluded.
Preservation and notification
We promptly assess preservation duties with counsel and preserve relevant information when required. Preservation does not itself authorize disclosure. Emergency requests receive expedited verification and legal review; urgency alone does not authorize release. Counsel determines whether affected people may and should be notified, including timing and restrictions. We do not violate secrecy obligations or compromise confidential sources through notification.
Documentation and retention
We maintain a restricted record of each request, its legal basis, reviewers, decisions, objections, approvals, the precise information disclosed, delivery, notification decisions and closure. We limit access to authorized personnel and counsel. Closed case records and minimal production inventories are normally retained for three years, subject to annual review and different legal requirements. Legal holds override normal deletion. Temporary transfer copies are deleted within 30 days after confirmed delivery and counsel’s confirmation that they are no longer needed, unless another duty applies. Backup limitations and retention exceptions are documented.
Policy review and contact
We review this policy annually, after a material legal or process change, and after a request closes. This policy does not guarantee notice or disclosure of a particular request and does not override applicable law.
For questions or to arrange secure delivery of legal process, contact Beverly Hills Standard. Please do not submit confidential source material, credentials or sensitive records through an initial general inquiry.
