A report that a man had pointed a firearm at people at or near the Wilshire/La Cienega Metro station prompted a tactical police response Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to information obtained by the Beverly Hills Standard.
The man reportedly left the station and entered a property on La Cienega Boulevard before exiting toward Hamilton Drive. Officers located and took him into custody near Hamilton Drive, just north of Wilshire Boulevard.
Video first published by Street People of Beverly Hills shows multiple Beverly Hills police officers surrounding a shirtless man on a sidewalk as he is restrained. Several officers are wearing tactical helmets and protective equipment.
The footage does not establish which specialized police unit participated, and no firearm is visible in the portion of the encounter shown.
Police searched the La Cienega Boulevard property but did not locate a firearm there, according to information obtained by the Standard. Investigators believed the weapon may have been discarded after the man left the station. As of publication, no firearm recovery had been publicly confirmed.
The man's identity, any booking charge and the precise circumstances behind the original weapon report have not been publicly released. It was also not immediately known whether anyone reported being injured or directly threatened.
Beverly Hills police and the city had not issued a public statement about the incident as of Wednesday afternoon. The Standard will update this report if an arrest record or additional official information becomes available.
