Beverly Hills High School counts among its most famous alumni Rob Reiner, the Emmy-winning actor and Oscar-nominated director whose career spanned iconic television roles and beloved films.
Reiner, born in the Bronx in 1947, moved to Beverly Hills with his family at age 12. He attended Beverly Hills High, graduating in 1964, where the school's drama program helped spark his lifelong passion for performance and storytelling.
It was during his high school years that Reiner formed enduring friendships that shaped his life and work. He met Albert Brooks (born Albert Einstein) in a drama class, beginning a bond that lasted more than 60 years. The two returned to the campus in 2023 for an interview, reminiscing about their teenage years and the school's role in nurturing their creativity. Reiner later directed the HBO documentary "Albert Brooks: Defending My Life," a tribute to his closest friend.
Reiner also connected with classmates Richard Dreyfuss and Larry Bishop at the school. Together with Brooks, they formed an improvisational comedy troupe called The Session, performing locally and laying early groundwork for their Hollywood careers.
Reiner's ties to Beverly Hills extended beyond his school years; the city remained a touchstone in his personal and professional narrative. His father, comedy legend Carl Reiner, raised the family here, immersing young Rob in the entertainment world while grounding him in the local community.
Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home on December 14 from multiple sharp force injuries ruled as homicide. Their son Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The investigation continues.
The Beverly Hills community joins the entertainment world in remembering a native son whose talent brought laughter, insight, and heart to generations.
