Russell Stuart Joins McGregor, O'Neill at Beverly Hills 9/11 Tribute

For Beverly Hills Board of Education member Russell Stuart, the city's September 11 remembrance included a meeting with a man whose military service connects directly to the aftermath of the attacks and a fighter whose charitable work has supported first responders' families.

Stuart met and spoke with UFC star Conor McGregor and former Navy SEAL Robert O'Neill outside the Beverly Hills Fire Department during the September 11 ceremony marking the attacks' 25th anniversary. A photograph shared on Stuart's Instagram shows the three standing together outside the station.

“Proud to stand alongside UFC superstar Conor McGregor and former Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill, the man credited with killing Osama bin Laden, at today’s 9/11 ceremony outside the Beverly Hills Fire Department.”

O'Neill was a member of the American special operations team that raided bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in May 2011. He later publicly identified himself as the SEAL who fired the fatal shots, an account that brought him international attention. The operation killed the al-Qaeda leader nearly a decade after the September 11 attacks.

For Stuart, standing beside O'Neill on the anniversary carried particular significance. His Instagram post continued:

“Being with Senior Chief O'Neill on this day carries special meaning. Strong men, real courage, and deep respect for the heroes we lost and those who answered the call. An honor to be in their company. 🇺🇸”

McGregor, the Irish mixed martial arts star who became the UFC's first simultaneous two-division champion, also has a documented connection to supporting American first responders.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has reported receiving millions of dollars from McGregor and the Proper No. Twelve whiskey brand he founded. The foundation, established in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on September 11, supports fallen first responders' families, Gold Star families and severely injured veterans and first responders.

Stuart's public reflection focused on the significance of sharing the anniversary with McGregor and O'Neill, and on honoring both those killed in the attacks and those who served in the years that followed.
