A new analysis by the San Francisco Chronicle ranks Beverly Hills High School seventh among California public high schools for outperforming expectations in University of California admissions.

Beverly Hills High School has been ranked No. 7 among California public high schools for exceeding expectations in University of California admissions, according to a new statewide analysis published by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The ranking evaluates how many students from each high school are admitted to the most competitive University of California campuses compared with how many would statistically be expected based on the demographics of the student body.

Using data from the 2023–24 senior class, the Chronicle built a statistical model using information from the California Department of Education along with admissions data from the University of California system. The model estimates how many UC admissions each school should receive based on factors such as income levels, disability rates and other demographic indicators, and then compares that estimate with the actual number of admissions.

According to the analysis, Beverly Hills High School produced significantly more UC admissions than predicted by the model. The Chronicle reported that the school generated 23 more UC admissions per 100 seniors than expected, with an actual rate of 48 admissions compared with a predicted rate of 25.

The ranking focuses on admissions to the University of California’s most selective campuses, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.

Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss said the recognition reflects the district’s commitment to academic excellence and the dedication of the community.

“This tremendous recognition validates who we are as the leading public school district in California. Our families make great sacrifices to live in this community with the goal of sending their children to the best schools in the country. I thank our teachers, administrators, and our Board of Education for prioritizing Beverly Hills students first,” Cherniss said.

The Chronicle excluded private schools from the study because comparable statewide demographic data is not publicly available. Charter and magnet schools were also excluded from the main list used to determine the top-performing traditional public high schools.

The results place Beverly Hills High School among the top-performing public schools in California when it comes to helping students gain admission to the UC system’s most competitive campuses.
