Beverly Hills police detained a suspect after a midday attack on Wilshire Boulevard in which a man was struck with a hammer and then run over by a vehicle, according to authorities and witness accounts.

A man was seriously injured Friday afternoon following a violent assault in the heart of Beverly Hills, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:42 p.m. on Wilshire Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard, a busy corridor just blocks from the city’s central business district. Officers responded quickly to reports of an attack and located both the victim and the suspect at the scene.

Witnesses reported that the suspect struck the victim with a hammer before fleeing in a vehicle and running the victim over. Police detained the suspect shortly after without further incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Authorities have not released additional details about the victim’s identity or current medical status.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack, and the incident remains under active investigation. Police have not indicated whether the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Beverly Hills police officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the area was secured shortly after the incident.
