Social Media Posts Put BHUSD Candidate Kim Lifschitz Under Scrutiny

A Beverly Hills Weekly report published this week has brought renewed attention to years-old social media posts involving Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education candidate Kim Lifschitz and her husband, attorney Daniel Lifschitz, as voters prepare to select two members of the Board in November.

The Weekly reported that a 2020 Instagram post from Kim Lifschitz showed her then-two-year-old child holding a copy of "The Socialist Manifesto." The post described the book as that night's bedtime reading and included the phrases "RNC counter-programming," "#raiseemright" and "#capitalismhascooties."

According to the Weekly, when a commenter recommended that Lifschitz read the Bible, she responded by criticizing biblical accounts involving violence, sexual assault and incest and described Jesus as a socialist who engaged in property damage as a form of protest against capitalism.

Lifschitz told the Weekly that the post was an inside joke intended for friends and family during the 2020 Republican National Convention and was meant as political "counterprograming" because she considered rhetoric at the convention far-right and fascistic.

"This past fall, almost a year before I announced my campaign, a sitting BHUSD board member stalked my personal Instagram and took a screenshot of a post from six years ago, which was a joke intended for family and friends," Lifschitz told the Weekly.

Lifschitz also alleged that an image subsequently circulated through local group chats had been altered using artificial intelligence to garble text and add a red fist to the book cover, which she said was not present on the actual cover.

"I am a Democrat who reads everything she can get her hands on, not a socialist," Lifschitz told the Weekly.

The Weekly also reported on a separate social media post involving Daniel Lifschitz. In the post, a screenshot of which has circulated publicly, he wrote, "I just wanted to make some MAGA folks on the school board feel bad and now I'm on @hasandpiker's livestream."

Kim Lifschitz disputed the characterization that her husband had appeared on Piker's program. She told the Weekly that Daniel Lifschitz had instead spoken publicly during an August 2025 BHUSD Board meeting concerning the district's antisemitism resolution. His comments were subsequently included in a Fox 11 news report, she said, and Piker later played that news coverage during his livestream.

"The post regarding my husband contains a blatant, dangerous lie," Lifschitz told the Weekly. "Dan spoke at a board meeting in August 2025 regarding the district's antisemitism resolution and the harm it could cause - a concern that was shared by district leadership. Fox 11 News featured him on their broadcast, and Hasan Piker watched the clip on his livestream."

Lifschitz said claims surrounding her husband's appearance had resulted in threatening messages directed at the couple. She also said his statement about wanting to make "some MAGA folks on the school board feel bad" referred to what he believed were consequences of the Board not listening to concerns he raised about the antisemitism resolution.

The reference to Piker adds context to the controversy. Piker, a prominent political commentator and Twitch streamer known online as HasanAbi, has faced extensive criticism from major Jewish advocacy organizations over his statements concerning Jews, Zionism, Israel and political violence.

In an April 2026 report, the Anti-Defamation League said Piker has a history of rhetoric that "sanitizes violence and denigrates Jewish people." The organization documented instances in which Piker used derogatory language about Orthodox Jews, compared Zionism with Nazism and expressed support for organizations designated by the United States as terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The American Jewish Committee has separately identified Piker as a streamer who it says spreads antisemitism to millions of followers.

Daniel Lifschitz's reference to appearing on Piker's livestream does not, by itself, establish that he agrees with or endorses Piker's broader views. Kim Lifschitz has maintained that her husband did not participate in Piker's program and that Piker independently played television news coverage containing Daniel Lifschitz's remarks.

The resurfaced posts come as Lifschitz campaigns for one of two seats on the BHUSD Board and has received public support from sitting Board Member Dr. Amanda Stern. Separately, the Beverly Hills Courier reported that Stern appeared at an Aug. 30 joint campaign kickoff for Lifschitz and fellow candidate Jackie Kruger and addressed supporters before the candidates spoke.

"You guys represent the hope for what is going on right now," Stern said, according to the Courier. "I know both Jackie and Kim as educated folks who care about achievement, who care about all students, not a select few."

Lifschitz has previously said she entered the race after speaking with Beverly Hills residents across different backgrounds and hearing concerns that the Board needed to be "functional, not factional."

"I'm running for the Board of Education to put students first, restore trust in the district, and govern responsibly," Lifschitz previously told the Weekly.

The social media posts and Lifschitz's responses have now become part of the public discussion surrounding her candidacy, placing comments made years before she entered the race alongside the positions and priorities she is presenting to Beverly Hills voters today.
